Today, I want to share with you my story and the exact steps i did on How I started my blog as a Pinterest VA and Social Media VA.
I always wanted to start a blog since 2014 and I can’t imagine that it took me 3 years before I finally said to myself that I have to start now or it will never happen. Well, I can’t blame myself on why it took me 3 years to start this blog. At that time I felt so overwhelmed and intimidated. Why, you might ask and I think some of you who are thinking of starting a blog has same reasons like I do. My first reason was, I don’t know how to create a website; second, I don’t know where to get good graphics and how to design it and third; I don’t even know what to blog about. Ofcourse, how can I blog if I don’t know those important factors of starting a blog. So, I decided to invest and learn the steps I needed to start this blog. Thanks to SuZi of start a mom blog. After I purchased her course blog by number, I dedicated my available time usually in the mornings and at night after my work to review, study and implement the steps on her course. And I can’t thank her enough as it made my blogging journey easier and less stressful one. If you are thinking of starting a blog as your new career or perhaps as a hobby, I highly recommend her blog by number course. It will tremendously set you in the right directions.
Without further ado, i layout the detailed steps I did when I start my blog in just 30 days.
The exact step by step guide for Bloggers and Virtual Assistant newbie like me.
1. Decide if blogging is right for you?
Let me tell you that starting a blog is not easy, you have to dedicate your time and work hard to learn the ins and outs of this career. I have read a lot of articles from other bloggers that to be successful in the blogosphere you need to commit yourself on this career and you have to learn to earn and treat blogging as a business.
Ask yourself these 6 questions to help you decide
if blogging is right for you.
a. Do I intend to make this blog as my part time, full time or just a hobby?
b. Why do I want to blog and What/Who is it for?
c. What blog post will you write?
d. Who will be your audience?
e. What makes your blog different from other blogs?
f. What skills, experience or resources do I have to start this blog?
2. Set your Goals
When you set your goals, it has to be specific, measurable, attainable/achievable, realistic/relevant, and timely. Setting smart goals whether for personal or professional reasons is a great move and will also set you to the right direction. When you start your blogging journey,make sure to write down your short term goal (0-6 months) , medium term goal (6-
24months), and long term goal (24-60months). Once you’re done with your goals, hang it where you can see it every day. This will be your driving force and motivation to continue when you’re feeling stuck and frustrated.
3. Find your passion
Knowing what you are passionate about will make your blogging journey easier. Your passion will give you the inspiration to write something for your blog and will give you the energy when times get rough for you.
4. Decide on your niche
Once you know what you are passionate about, it is now time to narrow down your passion to know if your niche is profitable or will be profitable.
5. Decide on your Domain name
Deciding on your blog’s name is actually my favorite part but somehow a little bit hard. It’s like when you’re naming your child, or pet. You can go for a cute one but my suggestion is to choose a simple name. You can also choose to use your name if you can’t think of anything yet. Don’t worry about it too much, you will definitely find your brand voice along the way. The important part is to decide for a blog’s name and start blogging.
6. Buy your domain name
Now that you already picked your name, it is now time to check if it is available. You can go to Namecheap (this is where I bought my domain name, and yes it is cheaper) and check if it’s available and buy it! Just for reminders, once you find that your name is available purchase it right away. Don’t be like me, I didn’t buy my chosen name and when I was ready it was gone and someone has it. I felt so bad on why I didn’t purchased it when I first found it was available. But I learned my lesson there and I don’t want you to experience it.
7. Sign up for hosting plan
I am using Squarespace for my website, mainly because it is easier to navigate and site looks beautiful plus it’s just drag and drop compared to weebly and wordpress. I’m not a techie person so I really find Squarespace easier. But it’s just my personal opinion; it is still up to you if you want to use other platform than Squarespace. 8. Get a nice and professional looking photo
Ofcourse, when your audience arrive on your site you want them to feel welcome. And by posting a nice and professional looking photo your audience will feel more comfortable and they will instantly relate to you and your blog.
9. Connect Google Analytics
Now that you have a domain name and hosting plan in place, you need to connect google analytics. This will help you monitor on when or where your search traffic is coming from.

10. Install plug-ins
Installing necessary plug-ins to your website will also help you increase your traffic etc.. please research more on this topic on why it is important to install plug-ins.
11. Write your About Me Page
When you write your About Me Page make it personal, let your audience know your visions and reasons on why you started your blog. Tell them who you are, your hobbies, your dreams and anything that will help them know who you are.
12. Write your Disclosure Page
With this one, I only added this step because if you are going to use affiliate links to your blog, you need to tell your audience that you are using affiliate links and with that you have to put a disclosure page to your blog posts.
13. Set-up a personalized email address
I advise you to get a domain email address (example: firstname.lastname@example.org). Having a personalized email address will make you a professional blogger and set you apart from other bloggers who are just starting out or who haven’t have this.
14. Social media accounts and Pinterest Business account
If you are a new blogger, I advise you to have even just 2 social media platforms (Pinterest and Facebook) for a start and eventually you can add Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin and others in the long run. Using Social media is a great venue to promote your site/blog. Here is a blog post about

15. Create atleast 10 Pinterest boards
Having a properly set-up Pinterest business account will increase your chances of being accepted to other group boards. Again, here is a link where you can read my blog post about
16. Plan and Outline your chosen 3 Blog topics
When you are a new blogger, planning on what to write about is crucial. But if you done it the right way, even if you only have 3 blog posts and yet you tackled the main problem of your niche and given the best advice or tutorials to your audience chances are, your audiences will be blown away and will perceive your post valuable and they will keep coming back to read your site.
17. Write your first blog post
Take your time to write on your first post.
18. Write your second blog post
Take some time to thought of what to write. Remember that when you write you want your readers to be happy and learn from your post. Always value your readers time visiting your site.
19. Write your third blog post
So, how are you doing so far? This activity for this day might be hard for you, especially if you are not good in writing. But it's okay, when you get the hang of writing your blog post it will soon be easier for you to think of ideas on your post.
20. Link 3 blog post to each other and create Pinnable images
Once you’re done with your 3 blog post, make sure they are linked together. And also, create a beautiful, catchy and easy to read images. If you’re unsure on how to do this, you can search on youtube for some tutorials.
21. Research and Create a Freebie
Now research for a freebie or giveaway. Your freebie should be something that your audience needs or something that could solve your audiences’ problem.
22. Created your freebie using canva.
Go ahead and create a Canva account. This app is free but as soon as you need a higher version they also cater that. But for now the free version will suit your needs as a newbie.
23. Set-up an email marketing account
You can set up a Mailchimp account for a start. It is free for the first 2000 subscribes. SO go ahead and create your account now. This is necessary as this will collect your audiences email addresses. You will be needing this email list for your blog traffic and if you plan on marketing yours/others products or services in the near future.
24. Setting up your freebie or giveaway
Once you created your freebie you have to decide on where in your site to place it. It could be anywhere or my best advice is at your home page and about page to get more subscribers.
25. Create a landing page for your freebie
It’s always a smart move to promote your freebie by using opt-in or landing page. Here is another tutorials on how to create a landing page using squarespace.
26. Apply to Pinterest Boards

27. Growing your network
If you want to promote your blog site it is always best to start on social media. Social media is always the best venue to start networking. You can use facebook to engage and connect with other bloggers. Some FB group has promo days where you can promote your blog and from there you can build your audience.
28. Launch your Blog
Launching your blog might be scary at first but actually when you did you will find that it’s not scary at all. You just have to think that you are just starting to promote it online.
Now that your site, blog and freebie is all set up, you are now ready to promote it. Make a post Using your FB and for Pinterest use tailwind loopin strategy that I learned from Suzi. This strategy will immensely help your blog to increase traffic.
30. Evaluation day!

Now that you are on the 30th day, I still want you to do something for the last day. After putting all the hard work to your blog, I want you to evaluate what you've learned, what went wrong/well, what made you stucked, and what plan of action will you be executing next month?
Remember, if you fail to plan, you fail to succeed! After this step, you go ahead and treat yourself for a wonderful 30 days of starting up your blog!
